Today I met an amazingly kind and patient lady who heard my call for help and came to the rescue. Merlin so obviously liked her, because he knew exactly where he stood with her. I feel very differently about the whole situation now, so maybe, just maybe it's not all lost!

I do hope you keep going with him. I hope this lady helps you tremendously.
You need to be the boss mare with this guy. He is riding roughshod over you and it will only get worse. Get real assertive and have someone watching when you work with this horse. He's almost a danger and has already hurt you more than once. That's enough. Don't be afraid to give as good as you get.
Clinton Anderson uses a nice little pole to keep them out of your space. Get on Youtube.com and find some training videos that will help you. Make your bubble and don't let him push you around!!
I wish you the best with him, and if you need help or suggestions, call out!
Thank you Mikey. You're totally right, he WAS riding roughsod and I was just standing by saying 'ooohhhkaaay, you go ahead and be boss, and I'll be all timid'!
I've just started the parelli course 1, and I know not many people like it, but so far I like the look of it.
Primarily it's for our gelding, Toffee, just to give him some fun and direction. But it's teaching me a heck of a lot about body language, which is definitely a good thing with Merlin.
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.

I'm glad you have found someone to give you some advice over his handling. Colts will push the boundaries (like kids really, only more dangerous).
children arent dangerouse they just get bored so they have to do somthing otherwise they just fight!
